Portfolio: Carved Wood Ware

Dishes, Bowls, Platters, Pendants, Paperknives and other items

When I started my woodcarving business in 1985, making carved woodware - dishes, platters, vessels, plates - was a core part of my production, which has always run alongside my other activities - my commissioned public art work, house signs, school project work, sculptural furniture, and my personal art work. The shapes of leaves and fish lend themselves particularly well to the design of these functional items as their stalks and tails make useful handles with which to pick them up. While I consider the functional aspect of these objects to be important, they are also vehicles for me to have fun with form, shape, texture, pattern and colour.
